Twoleg nests. They were so weird. With their hard white floors, some floors even covered with strangely colored pelts that were soft or rugged under paw. The lights were too bright too, but the other cat didn't seem to be bothered by any of this. Then again, he was a kittypet, so he wouldn't understand her situation. Creamfeather hissed in frustration as she fell back onto the soft pelt that covered the hard white surface in front of the door. "Stupid two-legs." she growled, flicking her tail irritably. "Why can't they just let me out?"
"Because they know you'll run away." a deep toms voice sounded from behind her.
The cream colored she-cat rolled her eyes as she turned to face the black and white kittypet, Barry. "I don't belong here Barry." she hissed, sliding her claws out. "I was never meant to be a kittypet."
"And there you go again with that weird talk." Barry's green eyes flashed with annoyance. Why couldn't she just accept the fact that she was a house-cat now?
"My talk isn't weird." She mumbled, pulling at the pelt beneath her paws.
Barry rolled his eyes. "And look. . . Complaining isn't going to get you out of her any faster." He shook his head and nodded to the food dish beside the cabinets in the kitchen when he heard her belly rumble with hunger. "You should really eat you know."
Creamfeather wrinkled her nose. "That kittypet slop? No thanks. I'm going to search for another way out before your two-legs get home." Her hazel eyes flashed with determintion.
"You'll break her heart."
The Leafclan warrior knew exactly who he was talking about. "I don't see how you stand it. If that kit pulls my tail one more time I'm gonna turn her into fresh-kill."
"HOW CAN YOU BE SO CRUEL?!" The black and white tom suddenly screeched, glaring at her with smoldering green eyes. "My housefolk took you in because they thought you were starving and because they care. . . and if you ask me I don't think your clan-mates or whatever you call them miss you very much. They didn- OOF!" Barry didn't get to finish his sentence, since he was interrupted by Creamfeathers screech, her tackling him, then the feel of her claws pricking his skin.
"Listen to me, you spineless waste of fur." she hissed in his ear. "I was hunting alone when your two-legs found me. Leaf-bare is tough for all the clans. All the cats out there are thin like me. . . And for your information, my clan-mates are probably worried sick, especially my sister." Even mentioning her sister brought a glimmer of sadness to her eyes. Leighpool was all she had left after her parents and brother had died, the rest of their siblings leaving the clan for rogue lovers. Creamfeather stepped off Barry, the fur on her shoulders laying flat.
Barry got shakily to his paws, his green eyes wide. "You're right, you don't belong here."
Creamfeather flicked her tail, feeling guilty that she had lost her temper.
"I could help you escape. The little one always opens the bathroom window before she and her parents go somewhere. I don't really know why, but it's probably still open."
Creamfeather blinked, then smiled. "Thank you. . . I'm uh. . . sorry I attacked you Barry."
The black and white tom shook his head before leading her to the bathroom.
A cold breeze ruffled the two cats pelts as they walked up to the open door. The cream colored tabby licked his shoulder as she walked past him. "Thank you again Barry."
Barry smiled lightly back before twisting his ears towards the front of the house. "You better hurry, my house-folk are home."
The Leafclanner nodded and hopped up onto the toilet cover, then to the window sill. She glanced back towards the door, but Barry had already gone to greet his housefolk. Creamfeather squeezed under the window and was about to hop down when she felt a tug on her neck. She hissed in annoyance as she glanced back, seeing that the collar the two-legs had put on her had caught on the latch. She hissed again and pulled against it, mrrow-ing in surprise when she fell into the snowdrift below. Creamfeather looked up and saw the red colored band now sitting on the ledge. She bounded away through the snow quickly and clawed her way up a fence. She looked around and blinked with surprise. I never knew how close to home I was. She mused to herself, excitement in her belly as she dropped to the opposite side of the fence and raced into the familiar marshes at the edge of Leafclans territory. Home.
